Independent Thoughts [alnaim.com]

Follow the path of the unsafe, independent thinker. Expose your ideas to the danger of controversy. Speak your mind and fear less the label of "crackpot" than the stigma of conformity. -- Thomas J. Watson, Sr.

hey...just came accross your blog...and am aware that the post in question is dated nov 2007..i do not reside in saudi but like many am familiar with the widespread abuse of expatriate domestic workers in the middle-east....had no knowledge of these advertrisments...and while it may seem like too little too late, or rather trite in light of the magnitude of the problem, these advertisments seem to me like a tremendous step forward...constituting at least an acknowledgment of what goes on nin saudi households....in the gulf country i live in such cases of maltreatment and abuse are regularly reported in thepapers....but there has been little if any actual govt acknowlegment or remedial action...most observors or citizens are content to issue customary expressions to the effect of "oh...how unfortunate it is"....but as far as i know there has been no talk of reform or the conferal of active rights to such workers within the Kuwaiti Parliament..indeed fairly recent strikes by Bangladeshi workers for unpaid wages resulted not in public indignation and disgust at such employers, but talk in parliament as to means of preventing resort to such action on the part of these workers in the future ..in light of this whats happening in saudi appears pretty big and encouraging...also with reference to your blog your posting of interesting articles is great..and i understand that your take on the issues raised meant to be self evident, whether your amused or disgusted etc...but it would be interesting if u included even a brief comment or your ownparticular individual take on the subject matter...whether u have any special knowledge about it, or have identified a unique pattern or something.....yes my comment is rather lengthy....sorry about that...do keep posting articles!...raingirl
