Saddam sentenced to hang

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein was sentenced to hang by a U.S.-sponsored Iraqi court which found him guilty on Sunday of crimes against humanity.

The ousted president, visibly shaken, shouted out "Allahu Akbar!" (God is Greatest) and "Long live the nation!".

Here’s an interesting question/prediction I just saw on TV. Will the sentence be carried out or will it be postponed indefinitely? If it is carried out, will he be viewed by Arabs as a martyr? I’m afraid he will be.

Perhaps, but the only people that have a right to speak out in that issue are iraqis, and knowing quite a few, they basically share a similar opinion, he might not be a martyr, but he was certainly the lesser of two evils. That opinion is also extremely relative to the social cast they belonged to when he was in power. I personally see no way how an educated person might view him as one.

oh yeah .. definatly ... i think he'll be too ... and to be totally honest with you .. i flinched when i heard that he is going to be sentenced to death... i think it's us arabs ... we don't look at what a person did, but we look at him as a symbole .. that he is and "arab leader" whether he was good or a person who commits crimes against humanity. plus another thing ... an iraqi spoksman was speaking on TV ... and he said a very interesting thing ... that most propably arab think of saddam as " ahwan al amarrayn" or in other word not "good" but "better" than the americans .. so as a result they will always talk about saddam as a martyr!

a must agree with sarah because sadly, educated people do not represent the majority of the middle east.

it's ironic how two people post the same comment at the same time with the same idea ... if that meant anything .. it would mean that what we're saying is TRUE! and people should wake up and smell the coffee!
