Saudi Arabia’s religious police ban sale of pet cats and dogs

“One bad habit spreading among our youths is the acquisition of dogs and showing them off in the streets and malls,” wrote Aleetha Al Jihani in a letter to Al Madina newspaper. “There’s no doubt that such a matter makes one shudder.”

“Then what’s the point of dragging a dog behind you?” he added. “This is blind emulation of the infidels.”

this just proves that they can do whatever they want and it's not religion related. how do they think abu-huraira got his name? anyway, i know why they're doing this. more and more people are getting dogs, and mutawa's are scared shitless of dogs. i love it when mariam and i go for a walk with alex and a mutawa' freaks out when we pass by and alex goes "GRRRR"... but cats just got dragged into this for no reason.
again, the only thing that comes to mind is... WTF?!

God created all animals for a reason even the most low of animals.

In His wisdom he created cats to keep mice under control.

In His wisdom he created dogs to keep the lonely company. The truth be known countless studies have demonstrated the benefits of a dog (or cat) as pets to the happiness, mental and physical health of the people who had them.

Many nursing homes across America are "adopting" pet dogs for residents. These dogs are cleaned, fed and cared for and if you could see the face of an 80 year old resident, who lost his wife 6 years before, when "Rex" walks into his room you would see the benefit for yourself.

To bad there aren't more pets in the Kingdom.
