Saudi Arabia to introduce new education curricula

“A number of subjects such as geography, history and citizenship will be combined into one subject, which is national and social education. The five Arabic subjects will also merge into one, Quran and recitation, the biography of Prophet Mohammad and the study of Hadith.”

I am really excited about seeing how mutawwas will react! Article

This is insane. I'm sure more level-headed people will temper these changes down substantially before anything gets implemented.

I think this will lead to coeducation and teenage pregnancy.

Okay, first of all, it's not as though we ever had an overdose on history to justify combining it with 2 or 3 other subjects. If anything, the Saudi curriculum is too thin on history, in my opinion.

As for religious subjects, I've always thought that 5 subjects was overdoing it, but I think cutting them down to 1 subject all of a sudden - assuming this Zahrani guy 3indah salfah to begin with - is just asking for trouble, as if educational reform aren't being accused of 3ilmaniyyah and atheism already.

I agree with Hosam on both comments. Besides, i don't expect this to "pass" anyway.

    Lool I think al-zahrany 3nda salfaaa…
The hours dedicated for all religion subjects before changing the curriculum go like this:
    Ebteda2y: 8 hours
    Mtwasi6: 6 hours
    Thenawy: 4 hours

After changing the curriculum: 5 hours will be dedicated for deen in all 3 levels.
I think that evens it out…
Besides the prophet Mohamed’s (9la allah 3lyh wa salam) biography + 8ur2an + 7adeeth would teach students everything they need to know about Islam… assuming they do that properly…

Tariq, you have to approach things in here with a sense of humor. Don't you find it hillarious how they over-react to everything? Remember when they merged the administrations of education of boys and girls?
