Every time I visit the Unites States someone comes to be upon my return and asks if I’ve been harassed and lectures me why I should ever go because we’re treated unfairly and they don’t "give" us any rights. Well, I might not be treated as well as a US citizen is, but I’m certainly treated better as a foreigner in the US than I am as a citizen in Saudi Arabia. Just take a look at the recent example of Muhammed Al-Harbi, a high school teacher in Bukairiyah, who was sentenced to three years in prison and 750 lashes (in public) for “mocking” religion. The judge convicted him based on the testimony of some of Al-Harbi’s students who happened to fail his last Chemistry test. Al-Harbi’s defense wasn’t even heard!

Totaly agree!
Everyone I met so far keeps asking me that question, and I reply with the same answer as yours. Some have a hard time believing me though, but I can understand that since they've never been exposed to other cultures/foriegn countries.

Being whipped 750 times and three years in jail is insane, especially for something like that! How revolting! But, pretty typical in Saudi.
Man, when are people going to freaking grow up?
I couldn't agree more that a foreigner in the U.S is treated better than a Saudi citizens in Saudi.
Man.
Nice blog, btw.

Hi 3ziz, angel, tyt, Jo, and jaded Saudi:
I agree with all of u that what happened to the unfortunate teacher is really annoying and ‘6ulm. But the hate in your words towards Saudi or Saudi ppl “who were not as fortunate as u are tyt "to be exposed to other cultures/foriegn countries.” and that ppl have such small minds or shallow... That is really annoying!! I can feel HATE in all of your words!!
We all know that our country is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrr from perfect. and if perfect was imposable or does not exist ; half as good as it could be would be grate…. but hating it won’t fix what’s happening or help in building up a brighter future which we all want to be part of (which if anyone noticed Saudi is going towards those days with humongous steps!!).
NO ONE can help anything or anyone while hating it…… soo plzzzzzzzzz LOVE our country and country men & women…… that’s the way to help……
SORRY itha 6walt 3lykum wa thaggalt …..

anonymous: I don't know how you came up with the idea that I hate the people here or hate my country, I didn't even imply it. Sure there are annoying stuff, but I don't hate, hate is a big word to use. I think you didn't get my point well.

I think if any of us really hated Saudi, we wouldn't be annoyed by bad things happening, we simply wouldn't care.

The man was represented in court by the best lawyer in the kingdom. the lawyer begged the judge to postpone the trial but the judge said that they have postponed it for long enough and it has to be dealt with now, and there's no time for a trial, they were there just to decide the punishment. NOW!!! hasn't anyone noticed that when something as retarded as this happens, "there's no time for a trial and it's been postponed for long enough", BUT when there's a murder case that involves someone "important" or when you drag someone that hasn't paid rent for 10 years and owes you 10 mil the trial takes roughly 20-30 years?
strange... just a thought

Hamad,
In Saudi 1+1 does not always equal 2, it depends 100% on who's doing the addition =)
